What’s In My Bag: Holiday Edition!

As this post goes live, I will be boarding a plane at Heathrow airport, ready for a 7 1/2 hour flight (possibly more, I can’t remember!) to America!

I cannot describe to you how excited I am about this trip – We fly into New York, only to immediately leave for a week or so for an explore. We are visiting Vermont, Cape Cod & Boston before heading back to New York for the final 6 days of the two week trip. I had never been to any of these places and I have ALWAYS wanted to visit New York so this trip is just going to be so exciting!

We have some crazy adventures planned while we are out there too – we are doing a zip wire, potentially going kayaking, going on a high tree walk (a bit like a VERY extreme version of Go Ape!), doing a segway trip with views of the manhattan skyline, theatre trips and so much more – I cannot wait!

I will be posting what I get up to every few days or so and have some other posts scheduled while I am away so A Girl On A Journey is still very much going while I’m away! 🙂

So, I thought I would share with you guys what I am taking on the flight with me – I’ve never done a “What’s In My Bag” post so this seemed like a good opportunity!

Ok – here goes.

1. New Cath Kidston Bag
Brand new in the sale last week – it’s actually a backpack which is perfect for this holiday where I need to be able to carry my camera etc around with me and not end up with wonky posture for the fortnight! I think backpacks are great for breaks where you have a bit of city time and a bit of beach time, which is exactly what this is – and it’s so pretty!

2. MacBook Pro
With a hard-drive full of movies, I’m set for the long haul flight, and the laptop section of my new bag is perfect for on the go blogging!

3. All The Wires
iPhone Charger, Camera Charger, Macbook Cable, Headphones, Aux cable (for the hire car when we land so I don’t have to dig around in my case for it!) Spare USB cables – wire-wise; you name it, I’ve got it in the bag!

4. Perfume
My go-to at the moment is Diesel “Loverdose Red Kiss”. Can’t be getting off the plane smelling of the pungent gentleman in the seat in front, can we ladies?!

5. iPhone backup Battery
I bought this about 6 months ago and it is GREAT! It holds 6 full charges worth of power for your iPhone, and with no plug sockets on the airplane and 7 hours worth of Angry Birds or iPhone Suduko to play (I’m obviously the coolest person you know!) it’s a necessity!

6. Books
I’m currently reading “The Ghost” by Robert Harris, but I’ve also popped “The Children’s Act” by Ian McEwan in the bag, just in case! I was also given a guide to New York for my birthday ahead of this trip so I can read it on the plane and get even more excited about the trip (If that is even possible!)

7. My Camera
Since I’ve started blogging, this camera has hardly left my side, so obviously it needs to come in my handbaggage in case something exciting happens….or I get carried away taking pictures out the window (which is more likely!)

8. iPad
I’ve got all my music on here to save space on my phone – but that is just the start. I am actually clinically attached to my iPad…without it I would be late constantly, lost always and would never have the right resources for anything! I also bought a bluetooth case with a keyboard for it so it works like a mini laptop – VERY handy!

9. Hair Clip and Hair Ties
I get irritated with my hair so easily – so I need a clip at hand always to get rid of it for a bit if it starts winding me up! I’ve got hair ties in my main bag and my hand baggage, after all – you can never have too many and they always disappear as soon as you look in the other direction so its best to have hundreds available in several different places!

10. Make Up Bag
Goes without saying, after 7 hours of dozing on a plane, if your eyeliner has stayed perfectly in the right place or your lipstick hasn’t smudged even a smidge I need all your secrets – in the meantime, I’m gonna carry this around with me ready to tidy myself up and get myself ready for getting off the plane in NYC – incidentally, you never know when you might meet a handsome prince – always gotta be ready! 🙂

11. Notepad and pen
Any blogger will tell you, this is a no-brainer. My notepad goes with me pretty much everywhere in case I get an idea, or I’ve got a piece I’m working on and need to brain-storm ideas.

12. Purse – equipped with Passport
If I keep all my important things together, I’m less likely to end up in a panic and find the thing I am convinced I’ve lost in the back pocket of my jeans 20 minutes later – my purse is great because it is HUGE! I can fit my cards, money and passport all in one place – panic averted!

13. Colourful Silk Scarf by ‘Demon Tz’
This is absolutely gorgeous – I was sent this recently (post to follow this week) and I cannot get enough of it – had to bring it away with me!

14. Sunglasses
Teamed with the silk scarf, I’ll be tarting my way through the airport thinking I’m some kind of 60s icon! Seriously though, it’s so necessary to have them at hand for when you get off the plane in the sunshine!

15. Nail Varnish
I may end up putting these in my main case after a do my nails this evening (I don’t think it’s too socially acceptable to paint your nails in a plane- too enclosed!) – I mainly put them in to remind myself to do them before I go to bed tonight – we all need summer nails girls! 🙂

16. iPhone
Well, of course! I bought a new Kate Spade case for it recently and I love it! 🙂

Well, that’s it – that is everything! Inevitably I’ve forgotten something really important or obvious and I’ll chuck it in at 4am tomorrow morning after a minor panic just before I leave for Heathrow but I think I’m all ready to go! I can’t believe that as you read this, I will be pretty much in the air! Eeek!

Can’t wait to update you all about what I’m getting up to! 🙂

Cape Cod is beautiful. I haven't been for many years but loved it back when I went. A total contrast to NYC and Boston. PS i have really enjoyed your last few blog posts!
