Playing with Makeup – Strokes of Genius L.A.B.2 Eye Makeup Brush Set! | AD

I’ve always loved playing with makeup (find me a girl who doesn’t?!) I love working out what works and what doesn’t – just by trial and error. Sometimes it’s good, and sometimes….less so – and that’s how I have learned! I’ve picked up the occasional tip from makeup artists I’ve worked with, but otherwise it’s all been picked up by just playing around!

There are times, however, that I want to try something new, and get it right first time, and simply don’t have a clue where to start. This is where the L.A.B.2 brushes come in.

L.A.B.2 brushes are designed by Hollywood makeup artist, Brett Freedman who has worked with Gwyneth Paltrow, Kirsten Dunst and Taylor Swift amongst many others. Brett has designed this range of high quality makeup brushes with the aim of being affordable and easy-to-use for everyone from a complete beginner through to a serious beauty-junkie.

These brushes have cutting edge synthetic fibres, a strong structure (to stop bristles falling out), a really quirky look, easy-to-hold design and even have the name of the brush printed on the handle so you know what each brush is designed for – perfect for those of us who dabble and learn on the go!

I’ve used my fair share of makeup brushes when getting ready for gigs, concerts or shows and in my every day life and I have to say I’ve been really impressed with these – they are easy to hold, the handle isn’t too long or too short, and it seems like this set of 5 brushes has everything you need for a really professional standard eye makeup look.

On the back of the box there is a cut out 5 step guide to how to use the brushes to create a new look so I decided to give it a try. I quickly learnt that it was near impossible to do this on myself and take pictures so my gorgeous sister stepped up and allowed me to try them on her so I could get some shots – thanks Gem!

Following just the instructions on the box, I created a classy look using my “In The Buff” palette (similar to the Naked palettes, but slightly cheaper!) – for this look I used “Sand”, “Thunder” and “Topaz”and I have to say I was really pleased with how it turned out!

L.A.B.2 have a huge range of brushes, with specific brushes for face, eyes and lips, all of which are really reasonably priced – individual brush prices start at just £5.99 with the sets of 4 or 5 brushes starting at £18.99. The whole range is available at Superdrug.

The set I have used here is the Strokes of Genius Eye Brush Set, which retails at £18.99 (but at the time of this post going live is in the sale at £14.99! – you can buy it here.

I have really enjoyed playing around with these and they are now settling into their new home in my makeup bag where I’m sure they will get a lot of use – really impressed!

Thank you to L.A.B.2 and Sparkle PR for sending me these to try out – they are fab and a new makeup bag staple for me!

I was expecting these brushes to be a lot more and I'm pleasantly surprised by that price tag. Definitely adding these to my birthday list! Loving the makeup look.
