Don’t you love it when you end up, completely out of the blue, with a free evening! You’ve been rushing around with deadlines and meetings and are beginning to feel a bit run down and then suddenly fate hands you an evening with no work, no deadlines and no reason to feel guilty if all you do is curl up and have the perfect movie night.
After the past week, I’ve been desperately needing just that – and lucky for me, such an evening arrived last night. I had no expectation of a free night in, but I had all my blog posts (ish) written and scheduled for the next few days, I didn’t have any meetings planned or things I needed to prepare for, so I could simply indulge!
So – here are my top ten movie night essentials for the next time you have a free evening appear out of nowhere and feel like giving yourself a break!
1. Put on the perfect movie
This totally depends on you and the mood you’re in but for me, if I’ve had a busy week, like last week, I need to watch something I’ve seen before and loved. A trusty favourite of mine is the Harry Potter series – it doesn’t matter which movie I put on – I’m engrossed in minutes and my brain just chills out!
2. Order pizza
It may be a bit naughty but it’s so good and it’s perfect movie watching food. You’ve been busy – it’s totally justifiable!
3. Pour the wine
Or your drink of choice – you deserve a wind down so crack open a bottle and relax!!!
4. Curl up under a blanket
I don’t know about you but I can’t get cosy and watch something without something warm and fluffy there to throw over myself or to hide behind if I’m watching something scary.
5. Don’t forget your onesie
It’s like a human shaped sock; cosy and soft, with no complicated buttons or uncomfortable zips etc. What’s not to love?! The only thing that becomes marginally complicated is if you need to pee….
6. Give yourself a bit of a pamper
Nail varnish, face mask, pedicure – whatever you can do without really concentrating that is going to make you feel a little bit pampered afterwards, do it!
7. Finish off with ice cream
If you’re going to break the rules with Pizza and Wine, you might as well go all out and invite Ben & Jerry to join the party! Give your pizza time to go down, watch a bit of the movie and then as soon as you feel like it, drag a pint of cookie dough out of the freezer and grab a spoon! 🙂
Give yourself a treat this week – have a cosy and relaxing movie night!
Let me know if you have any essentials I’ve missed from my list! 🙂
