2016, resolutions, plans & vlogging!

So, yesterday was that day, the day everyone has been dreading since the smoke from the fireworks cleared at midnight on New Years Eve; the day we all go back to work!

In some way, it is great, because it means we all get back into some semblance of a routine after spending weeks in our pyjamas, eating ferrero rochers by the bucketload and watching christmas movies until we know them by heart – getting back into a routine is needed around now. But in other ways, it feels sad because distant friends and family disappear back to their normal homes, the festive jumpers are gone, the Christmas decorations have to be taken down, we all go back to our normal lives and everything seems to be just a little bit less magical.

But then, if it lasted much longer, it wouldn’t be as special and magical when it comes around again in December…

For me, the Christmas break has been brilliant this year – just what I needed – I even gave myself a bit of break from posting every day on here, and, (shock horror!) on social media, and it felt great to just kick back and relax without thinking that I should be posting or tweeting or whatever.
Having said that, I’m so ready to get back to it now!

The new year is always a chance for a fresh start, and so many people this year have asked me what my new years resolutions are.
I always find new years resolutions a tricky one….I’ve not really made a habit of making them in previous years – instead I try to make a list to myself of my aims or plans for the year. For example, I think it’s better to say “I want to be healthier/fitter this year” than to stick to a strict “I want to go to the gym 4 times a week” because as soon as I don’t do that, it feels like a failure, and that doesn’t feel like the right attitude for fresh starts…maybe that’s just me.
So, instead, I’m making plans for 2016, big plans.

I’ve got so many ideas and things I want to do, on this blog and in my life outside of the it, and now that the new year has started, and we have shifted our 2 day hangover from new years eve, it feels like I can get going with these plans and working out how I’m going to achieve them.

One thing I do really really want to start doing properly this year, that needs no planning at all, I just need to get on with it, is vlogging. It’s something I’ve tried to start in the past and then when I came back from France I had to give myself a bit of a break, but 2016 is a fresh start and now I am ready to start properly. My plan is to post vlogs weekly (because actually my day to day writing life isn’t all that interesting!) over on A Girl On A Journey’s YouTube channel, showing you what I get up to, events I go to, things I have planned etc, as well as showing the less snazzy, real side of blogging (writers block, coffee shops and lots of time at your desk!). We have good days and bad days, we have days when we want to sit in our pants and do nothing, and actually, that’s fine. So though I want my vlogs to be fun, I also want to show the real side of it all too.

Other plans include places I want to travel and write about, projects I want to work on, places I want to work and other exciting ideas that I am going to keep quiet until I make them a reality.

It’s exciting and daunting at the same time, and I can’t wait to get started.

R xx
