If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you will know that I went to Spain in the summer with my gorgeous friend David – and while we were there we indulged in some seriously amazing Spanish food – I mean seriously, I’m pretty sure my tummy has never been happier – seafood dishes, paella, tapas, cured meat, amazing wine – I mean what more does a girl need?!
I received an exciting email recently, inviting me to visit Tapas Brindisa in Shroeditch to try out their genuine spanish menu – and as I’m such a fan of this incredible cuisine, obviously this was right up my street and I accepted!
Now I have to say, when I turned up on this particular chilly evening in early December, told the team who I was and followed them to the table, a little part of me felt like crying when they said that we would be sitting outside. OUTSIDE?! In December?! Are you kidding me?! I’ll freeze to death!!
But I needn’t have worried – there were heaters all set up to the point where everything was bathed in a bit of a festive red glow and I was sitting at the table in short sleeves, perfectly warm enough, as if I were sitting inside, but with the thrill of eating outdoors! It really did feel like an evening eating outdoors in Spain, where the evenings are warm and fresh and you can sit out all evening drinking red wine until you become more than a little bit giggly – it felt like a holiday, but in the centre of London in early December – Amazing!
We started with a platter of salami, chorizo and other cured meats, some hot padron peppers, and some incredible ham croquettas that I am on the verge of sending an email to the team to ask for the recipe for – I mean seriously, YUM – and of course, a classic glass of fizz!
For our main course, our fantastic chef did us a paella making demonstration, at the table! Then we were brought another huge platter of Paella (we were certainly not going to be going hungry!) and also a fantastic dish that was a bit like the paella, with the amazing king prawns, mussels and cuttlefish, but instead of the rice, it had short pasta – it was delicious, and felt like proper comfort food – YUM!
We had a real selection for dessert – my favourite has to have been the creme brûlée-type “creme catalan” pudding, and the chocolate wafer curls – so so good!
We drank fantastic Spanish wine, including a gorgeous light red wine that Brindisa actually serve chilled – really unusual but so good!
It was a really wonderful evening and I left perfectly full of incredible food, a little bit giggly from the red wine, and with Brindisa firmly placed on my top list of places to eat in London! The Paella in particular was spectacular, and I absolutely loved sitting outside – it felt like I had been transported to somewhere exotic for the evening, which, when we are all as busy as we are, is a really special feeling!
Thanks for having me Brindisa Shoreditch – I’ll be back! 🙂
