2016 Round Up – Part Three: Blog & Food

2016 was a really great year for food!I ate at a lot of really fantastic restaurants, had some fab cooking experiences and have generally been truly spoilt with my food blogging opportunities!

In April, I was invited to a workshop at L’Atelier des Chefs in London with Tefal to try out their ingenio range, which I now absolutely swear by – I have the full set in my little flat and use them every day! We made amazing chicken flatbreads from scratch and stunning Spanish omelettes – so easy and absolutely delicious! (Read more here!)

This year I was also invited to do a Chocolate masterclass (I mean, who could say no to that opportunity?!!?) at the Hotel Cafe Royal in London with patisserie-chef-extrordinaire Sarah Barber. We made Salted Caramel filled chocolates (anything salted caramel and I am SOLD!) and dark chocolate designer handbags (which we decorated!) filled with the most delicious selection of gorgeous handmade chocolates – designer handbags and chocolate – that’s my kinda afternoon! (Read about it here!)

I also worked with Thorntons on a Valentines giveaway, got to try out Waddlegoose cider with my girls at a special party, ate delicious nibbles at Le Meridien Piccadilly’s Summer Soiree, indulged in spiced prawns, delicious noodles and the most incredible curry (possibly ever!) as I tried out the summer menu at Busaba Eathai, had a girls trip to the Park Lane Hotel for an absolutely spectacular afternoon tea, was spoiled with the perfect girls night in from the wonderful people at Butterkist, and was treated to a fantastic paella making demonstration at Tapas Brindisa in Shoreditch – so all in all, not a bad year food wise!!!

I have a bunch of restaurants that I really want to try this year – over Christmas I’ve been doing a bit of a foodporn stalk on instagram….so be prepared for more yummy instalments as I explore more of what the food scenes of London and Cambridge have to offer! 🙂

BLOG

My blog has continued to grow this year – particularly with the addition of my “Midwife Mondays” – turns out, people really like reading about the steps you go through to train to be a midwife and catching babies!

I’ve worked with Amara Lifestyle, Boux Avenue, IDC wristbands, HerClutterBox, Ashleigh & Burwood, Rush Hair & Beauty, Very.co.uk and Woolovers amongst many other amazing brands.

I’ve also had some amazing opportunities come my way; I went canyoning and cave exploring with Dodie Clark and Coke TV (yep, I allowed my butt to be squidged into a wetsuit, filmed and shown to the nation on the internet – currently on over 294,000 views! Watch it here!), I met some fab cambridgeshire bloggers at the CambMeetUp Christmas Bloggers Bash, and had an incredible and inspiring night at the vuelio blog awards in London!

One of my highlights blog-wise this year has to be covering the #WeAreHere remembrance campaign for the centenary of the Battle of the Somme. Soldiers appeared all over the UK for one day, each representing a man lost on the first day of the battle of the Somme, and I was asked to cover it on my blog. I spent the day following the Bristol group, and I took some of the best photos I’ve ever taken, which were shared world-wide. It was an incredibly humbling experience and I am so completely honoured to have been involved. Read my Post and see my photos here.

A Girl On A Journey has had a real adventure this year, and I can’t wait to see what happens next! 🙂
