This week’s post is going to be a really quick one. I have just had my breakfast and am about to head out to the beach and, much as I love writing this “series”, this week, my priorities are more along the lines of squeezing my butt into a wetsuit or sitting in the hot tub with a glass of wine….!
This break has been such a long time coming – I didn’t realise quite how much I needed to just switch off my brain!
Last week, which was the first week of easter holidays, I did a handful of shifts back at my old summer job from last year – in a pottery cafe in Bristol. Then I headed back up to Cambridge for a meeting in the hospital in which I got my grading for my placement in the birth centre which I’m really pleased with!
Then, and only then, did my brain switch off. It was like I had started the break with a list of things that I needed to do, including the shifts back in Bristol, and to do the meeting in the hospital to get my grading done etc, and as soon as those things were done, my brain let out a huge sigh of relief.
That night we hopped in my new little car and drove back down to Bristol for the night, and then, on Good Friday morning, we drove the rest of the way down to the family place in north cornwall. This place is just magical. I’ve said it before on this blog – it’s just amazing to be here and really wind down.
We have had a BBQ, we have lit a fire at the end of the garden and watched the shooting stars, we have drunk A LOT of wine (much more than I would ever normally drink – what can I say, my dad is a very bad influence!) and we have sat in the sunshine in the hot tub and just taken in the view.
This trip has emphasised to me the importance of really turning off. I’ve barely been online, I’ve not looked at any work (really hoping there aren’t any of my lecturers reading this….!) and I’ve given my brain the break it needed! I wanted to still get this post out, so I’ve literally thought-vomited onto this page, and not thought too much about it – normally, I take a lot of time to get these posts right, but right now, I’m off to the beach!
Rosie, tuning out! See you all next week!
