One of the really wonderful things about blogging is the community that you become a part of. When I moved to Cambridge, I didn’t know any local bloggers here at all, and part of me thought I would be far too busy to find the time to meet other bloggers in the area or to make a huge amount of events and things locally once I started my course.
Yes, partly this is true, my diary looks like a biro threw up in it, and there is definitely a point about once a week where I think I have taken on too much, but the blogger events that have become such a key part of my life up here, has led me to the most gorgeous group of people.
My Cambridge blogger girls are such superstars, and they all work so hard, and push me to work harder too!
Obviously, we don’t all get invited to the same events all the time, but when an event comes up that we are all invited to, you just know it’s gonna be a special one!
This exact thing happened a couple of weeks back when we were invited down to Browns in Cambridge to see their new refurbishment and have a try of their gorgeous cocktails and delicious menu.
I hadn’t been to the Cambridge branch of Browns before the refurb, so I can’t comment on how it has changed, but I can say how bloody beautiful it is now! I particularly loved the blue backs to the “booth” seats, and any bar or restaurant that has a Baby Grand Piano is gonna be onto a winner in my mind – I just hope that they use it! 🙂
On arrival at Browns for this particular event, we were escorted straight over to the bar to have our pick from the extensive cocktail menu. I went for a French Martini which was absolutely delicious – the rest of the group ordered a real variety of drinks and I can honestly say that they all looked amazing!
We had a gorgeous table for our group, with our own personal cocktail waiter, who had such a love for life and so much passion for his job, I just had to take a photo!
We started with a handful of sharing platters between us.
First was the “Fisherman’s Platter” which had smoked salmon, salt and pepper squid, Devon Crab on Toast, and Mussels – absolutely gorgeous. I particularly loved the crab which was really beautifully seasoned and tasted incredibly fresh!
We also had the “Browns Sharing Plate” which had Chicken lollipops, more salt & pepper squid, prawn cocktail, beetroot houmas, and pulled pork and pig cheek crostini – This was probably second to the fisherman’s platter for me but it was still delicious – the prawn cocktail in particular was a highlight!
The Veggies amongst us also each had a ‘Torched Feta Salad’ which looked absolutely gorgeous!
Picking a main course from the extensive menu was REALLY DIFFICULT!
Personally, I was completely split between the Pan Friend Sea Bass or a Fillet Steak from their grill. In the end I had to go for the steak, but Charlotte did have the Sea Bass which looked incredible too – I’ll have to try that the next time I go!
I asked for my steak to be cooked Medium Rare, and it was – it was absolutely perfectly cooked. I always think that steak is something that is so easy to get wrong when it comes to the cooking, but this was absolutely how I asked for it to be – YUM! The Peppercorn sauce was creamy and completely delicious, and the Thick Cut Parmesan and Truffle Oil Chips were a real treat! I could eat them every day with no trouble at all! 🙂
For dessert I ordered the “Trio of Chocolate”. For me, I think that when you have a “Trio of…” on a dessert menu, it is really important that the three elements all work together and balance each other out. This plate was a perfect example of that. A gorgeously runny and rich Chocolate Fondant, a smooth and creamy White Chocolate Pot, and a sweet but not sickly Chocolate Ice Cream – really lovely chocolatey balance – yummy!
Thoughout dinner we had been drinking various different cocktails (with such a happy cocktail waiter, why wouldn’t you?!) and we even cracked into a couple of bottles of White Wine – then at the end of our dinner we were offered Tea or Coffee and a few of us decided to go for a final cocktail in the form of an Espresso Martini. This was absolutely delicious and perfectly smooth and creamy – a really lovely end to the evening for us!
We had a fantastic evening at Browns, and needless to say, I’ll be back! Amazing food, fantastic cocktails and great company! What a fab evening! I’ll be back! 🙂
