Low Calorie, Zero Sugar, Zero Hangover Wine – Could it possibly be real? | AD

We all know that when it comes to eating healthily, or trying to shift a few lbs, the first thing that tends to have to go, is alcohol. The Friday night bottle of wine that you used to drink together turns into a big glass of water – not quite the same really is it?!? (particularly when your Friday night pizza has somehow transformed into a mountain of quinoa and broccoli!)

But with a normal 750ml bottle of red wine coming in at an average of 625 calories, it does just appear to be unnecessary calories….
So what if I told you that you could have your normal bottle of red, but for nearly half the calories…?!

As you know if you’ve been reading my latest recipe posts or my “What I Ate In A Week” post, I’m on a huge health kick, and the first thing I did when I started this was cut out all alcohol. But when Slimline Wine offered to send me a couple of bottles of their low calorie, zero sugar wine, I definitely couldn’t say no!

I must admit, I was sceptical to begin with – I loved the concept, but surely this was going to be one of those moments where it sounds great but tastes like polystyrene put through a blender? There’s no way that wine with no sugar in could possibly taste good, is there? And it must be full of chemicals which will make the inevitable red-wine hangover even worse?

We were having a cosy night in, so I baked up my Chicken & Broccoli Pasta Bake, took a breath and cracked open a bottle…

Well, I can’t even put into words how impressed I was. Not only did it actually taste like red wine, but it actually tasted like quite a nice red wine – and really light and fresh. It was so drinkable, we drank the whole bottle in one sitting, completely guilt free!

M normally gets horrid hangovers from red wine; he can have one glass and he will feel it in the morning, but we both felt remarkably spritely the next morning – no sign of a hangover at all – amazing!

We also have a bottle of their fizz which we are keeping aside for our next date night in – can’t wait to give it a try – and for only 55 calories a glass, I’m sure we will definitely manage to get through that one just as quickly as we got through the red!

So, it turns out, alcohol isn’t off the menu when you’re watching what you eat – bring on the Slimline Wine! They also do a Rosé and a White, so you’re covered no matter what your tastes are – and all the wines work as normal when using them for cooking too, so your beef bourgignon doesn’t have to miss out on that red wine either! 🙂
